Afton

Afton Village is a small, tight knit community located in Houston’s sought-after Spring Branch area. It is located just west of Loop 610, bound by the Katy Freeway to the south, Antoine Drive to the west, Silber Road to the east, and Westview Drive to the north. Residents enjoy easy access to the Galleria, Energy Corridor, and Downtown.

 

THE HISTORY:

The neighborhood was developed in the early 1950s along with neighboring community Hilshire Village. The original houses are mainly mid-century ranch style. However, a wave of new construction has begun in Afton Village, as new residents are attracted by its great location and community feel. 

GOOD TO KNOW:

Police protection is provided by the Houston Police Department. The nearest location is the Long Point Storefront, located at 8400 Long Point Road (832-394-0104).

Fire protection is provided by the Houston Fire Department. The nearest fire station is Houston Fire Station 2, located at 5880 Woodway.

Postal services are provided by the Long Point Post Office, located at 8000 Long Point Road.

SHOPPING AND DINING: 

Several great dining and entertainment options are located just outside the community in the Marq E Entertainment Center, including Cafe Adobe, Dave & Buster’s, and Edwards Houston Marq E Stadium 23 movie theater.

Houston’s Uptown area, only a few minutes away, is home to countless upscale dining options, as well as The Galleria, Houston’s premier shopping destination.

SCHOOLS:

All students are zoned within Spring Branch Independent School District. Elementary-aged students are zoned to attend Housman Elementary School.

Middle school-aged students attend sought-after Spring Branch Middle School, located in nearby Hedwig Village. High school-aged students attend the renowned Memorial High School.

Nearby private schools include School of the Woods Montessori, Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart, The Regis School, Awty International School, The Kincaid School, and others.

LIBRARIES, PARKS & RECREATION:

The Spring Branch Memorial Library is operated by the Harris County Public Library System. It is located at 930 Corbindale Road in nearby Hedwig Village.

The members-only Afton Village Swim Club is located within the neighborhood and serves members all over west Houston. It is located at 1111 Afton Street. The Afton Village Swim Team is open to children aged 4 to 18. The Swim Club offers swim lessons as well as party rentals. More information can be found at www.aftonvillageswimclub.com.

Houston’s nearby Memorial Park offers a plethora of recreation options, including a golf course, tennis courts, sports fields, and a 3 mile jogging trail.
